Wake Forest began in 1820 and grew as a college town with the central focus being Wake Forest College, now the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and Southeastern College. There are nine ski resorts within a few hours of Wake Forest, and over 75,000 acres of lakes in the region to enjoy boating, fishing, and swimming, such as the Falls Lake State Recreation Area. The Factory on Main Street is the hottest place in Wake Forest for entertainment, with everything from eating and shopping to playing and sports. The Factory has indoor soccer, an arcade, martial arts, ice skating, go-karts, a skateboard park, baseball fields, many fine restaurants and specialty stores, party and event rooms, a YMCA, and much more.

Wake Forest offers residents year-round events to celebrate all occasions such as the annual events of the American Dance Festival, Walnut Creek Amphitheater Concerts, “Six Sundays in Spring,” “Meet in the Street” Festival, and the “DuBois Jazz Festival.” In the historic district, downtown residents can browse through fine artist studios and more than 50 retail shops in The Cotton Company, a historic cotton exchange warehouse that was renovated as a unique marketplace and event location.
